pseudo-terminal
A software terminal that lets a program, such as an SSH server or a virtual machine's console, behave like a keyboard and screen.
In more detail
Each pseudo-terminal has two ends: a program writes to one end, and a shell or console reads from the other. libvirt gives a guest's serial console a pseudo-terminal, which virsh console connects to.
