prom file
A text file in the Prometheus exposition format, with a .prom ending, that node exporter collects from a directory.
In more detail
A batch or cron job writes its metrics to such a file in the collector's directory, ideally under a temporary name and then renamed so a scrape never sees half a file. Node exporter adds the file's metrics to its own page on every scrape.
