mdadm
The tool that creates and manages Linux software RAID arrays, built on the kernel's md driver.
In more detail
mdadm --create builds an array from member disks, mdadm --detail and /proc/mdstat show its health, and an entry in mdadm.conf makes it assemble at boot. A failed member shows as an underscore in mdstat.
