locate
A command that finds files by name from a prebuilt database instead of walking the disk like find.
In more detail
updatedb rebuilds the database, usually once a day from a timer. PRUNEPATHS and PRUNEFS in /etc/updatedb.conf list paths and file system types it skips, so new or skipped files are missing until the next run.
