KRaft

Kafka's built-in metadata quorum, in which controller nodes replicate the cluster's metadata as a log.

One controller is active and the others follow its metadata log, so a cluster survives the loss of a minority of controllers. Brokers fetch the metadata log instead of asking an outside service. Since Kafka 4.0 it is the only mode.
